0.3.0 - Picaresques & Editing!

Hi, folks!

First of all, very good news: we've moved past the $200 mark, which means I will be able to afford to bring the absolutely incredible Fiona Maeve Geist on board to edit! You might know her from a few different places, but tldr: she's one of the best in the business, and she's going to help turn my rough hewn drafts into a polished project!

The next bit of exciting news is this:

I'm adding six picaresques to Picaroons! By that I mean, a core conceit of the game is to drop into (at least) your first session in media res. Once you've got characters, away you go!

Maybe an example will help:

This is a picaresque which leads straight into Alex Damaceno's The Goblin Caves. You start the session confronting 1d6 goblins who've just stolen a pig from the village. What you do from there, of course, depends entirely on your table, but I do suggest using The Goblin Caves to keep going, if you want to!

So, structurally, here's what each picaresque is going to do:

  1. Give you a reason to be where you are
  2. Give you something you're already doing
  3. Give you an adventure supplement to take it further

In the long term, I'm hopeful that I can work with the authors of the modules I'm using as inspiration for the picaresques (asking them all for permission and interest first, of course) to ensure that the eventual print version of Picaroons can be bought alone or with the adventures. But those are problems for much later.

For today, what I need to do is find five more adventures and authors willing to have me write picaresques for them! If you've got a favorite adventure (preferably pamphlet or short zine) you think I should include, drop me a line below or on twitter!

Til next time, folks!
